Hang Your Heart - Decorating For Valentine's Day

You love decorating, and you do so for every occasion you can think of! Why not fill your home with a little love and cheer on Valentine's day! You'll have a lot of fun, and your kids will love to help! If you're a teacher, these ideas can be great for the classroom.

Bulletin Board or Family Schedule

Do you have a bulletin board or a schedule? Put up a Valentine's themed border. If you don't have these, consider doing some decorations around and on the fridge. Get your red, white, and pink construction paper and cut out hearts, flowers, and cupids. Add pictures of your family (or your students)

You can even decorate your hearts and make them into "candy hearts." Think of sweet little slogans to put on every one of them. You can use anything you can think of from the traditional "will you be my Valentine?" to something more creative.

Your kids will get a kick out of paw prints put up with love messages to them from your pets, too.

Decorate the Table

Put a pretty table cloth on your table for the holiday. A white, light pink, or even a deep red will work. Put a beautiful arrangement of flowers as a centerpiece, or perhaps your own arrangement of silk flowers. A Valentine's Day craft you or the children have worked on would also be a wonderful idea.

If you have kids, get some red or pink poster paper, or use Contact Paper to laminate construction paper. Cut out big hearts. Punch holes on either side of the heart and use string to tie a heart on the back of each chair. If you're feeling really ambitious you can put a pocket on each heart. Little Valentine's messages can be left in these pockets... or maybe even a piece of candy!

Candles

You can add red, white, or pink candles to the table, on top of the piano runner, or anywhere around the house you think they'd look pretty. These will add a decorative flair to your house... and when it comes time for that romantic dinner, they'll really come in handy.

Put the Christmas Decorations Away

If you still have Christmas decorations lurking by the time Valentine's rolls around, it's time to pack them up! While you're packing you can look for bits that may be used to add to the Valentine's look, though. Tinsel around the base of your candles could add an elegant, shimmering look.

Now make some Valentine's cookies and some treats together to get your house smelling lovely. Set those out with some lovely old-fashioned looking Valentines and your home will be all set for the love and joy that comes with Valentine's Day.
